A NOTE FROM FLOT PRESIDENT, KURT NEWMAN
Patrons, As we enter the 40th season of Fairbanks Light Opera Theater’s existence; I am both excited and concerned for the future of this great organization. I feel that in the last few years we have worked hard and have been successful, in providing quality musical theater for our community. As I represent FLOT throughout our area, I am constantly complimented on the fantastic work by our directors, production teams, and performers. I am excited that our upcoming season will feature a mixture of the new wave and the old guard; with our fall show “Into the Woods” being directed by two of our newest directorial talents, Gwen Brazier and Lucas Clooten; and our spring offering “The Secret Garden” crafted by mainstay’s Theresa Reed and Jim Bicigo. I am concerned because while those who attend our shows tell us we are bringing a new level of excellence to the Fairbanks stage, our attendance and contributions are down from past levels; making it challenging to maintain the high quality entertainment we have established. With those thoughts in mind I invite you all to please take the step of inviting a friend to experience one of our shows with you. It is my experience that even if the person doesn’t much care for a musical movie; the power of a live performance can change their opinion. Many people tell me as they exit our shows that they have never attended one, but will now be sure to, due to the power of a live orchestra combined with the truly gifted vocal and acting talent we have in our community. I would also like to invite you to check out our new FLOT for Life program. We have taken a new direction in making it easier for you to help support our efforts through our website. This program will allow you to contribute as little as $5.00 per month for varying amounts of time; helping to sustain our operations. There will be literature on both our website and in our season brochure.
We are continually serving our mission of providing quality musical theater, educational outreach to the community and forging new collaborative efforts. From my perspective; after 40 years, FLOT is true to what our founders envisioned. I invite you all to come participate in this exciting company and find out why so many are Hot for FLOT!
