ABOUT JEWELS PRODUCTIONS:
Jewels Productions was founded by performing artist Julie Engfer in 1987, as a habitat for her creative endeavors. Julie is an actress, singer/songwriter and producer who started
her professional career at the Palace Theatre and Saloon and later performed at the Malemute Saloon in Ester.

Jewels Productions has developed into a company with a passion for supporting independent projects. Full scale theatrical productions, such as “Fortunes: Tales of the Gold Rush”, were nurtured from conception through the final stages of performance. With “Fortunes”, new friendships were formed bringing people from the history, mining, and teaching communities together with people from the music and theatre worlds. It was a huge success including fundraising for local woman’s charities.

ABOUT KIT MEYER:

Kit Mayer was an early inspiration for Julie Engfer during the founding years of the Fairbanks Shakespeare Theatre. Kit is a diverse artist who has been able to express himself through set design and teaching while nurturing his passion for music through his band, “Kit Mayer and the Careful Flies”. Jewels Productions is proud to bring him back to Fairbanks
as a guest artist for FLOT’s production of “Sweeney Todd”.

ABOUT SWEENEY TODD, THE MUSICAL:

Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street is a 1979 Tony Award–winning musical thriller with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by Hugh Wheeler. The musical is based on 1973 play Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street by Christopher Bond.

Sweeney Todd opened on Broadway at the Uris Theatre on March 1, 1979. The musical tells the story of Benjamin Barker, alias Sweeney Todd, who returns to London after 15 years transportation on false charges. When he learns from his former landlady Mrs. Lovett that his wife poisoned herself after being raped by the Judge who wrongly transported him (Judge Turpin by name), he vows revenge.
